    Great video ! Thought-provoking… informative. I received a sak from my brother … it had that funky light … I thought I was the only one thinking bad bout it. Few years ago smoky Mountain knife Works Had a crazy special on their tinkers.. bought a bunch ( 50) of them for Christmas presents.. after few years I finally have only two left.. living in Georgia with bunch of bulldog fans.. so I made sure I bought an equal number of black and red handled ones .. I got minor kick out of swapping out 1/2 the handles… but the recipients were frequently asked where did they get them.. I bet that caused a few unanswered requests / head scratching. lol.

    I enjoyed your sharing of your journey of knife collecting. I’ve seen some of your newer videos., became a subscriber… and this randomly came up. I love the talking points… specially of collecting what you like. I’ve always like knives .. and only used and carried six knives for most of 30 years… But by chance got into buying and selling knives … came across a good deal on some multi tools… sold a lot ( crazy lot) … for two years . I was in building maintenance for large co.. sold boxes of 25 to co workers n to folks that I came across on my ‘route’ After this supply went dry… I found other USA made knives and bought a large supply them… especially to have around Christmas. Sometimes I would trade with knife, dealers, or gun dealers.. for knives I liked… Spyderco , remington camillus cudas .. back 20 years ago… Since then ( last ten years) I didn’t sell knives as much but used a portion of the proceeds of a side gig… too fund the knife buying.. not expecting to recoup the money… But the whole time I was doing this even selling a lot.. It was just a fun thing to do. It wasn’t so much about the money. ,,, but once I got more in it.. it was just a fun activity .. fun trading n interacting with guys.. I’m lucky that it worked out moneywise. I understand what you mean about not getting caught up in ‘special editions’ … limited runs. For a short while I sold Chevys 1979 1980 .. I started to see special Corvette pace, car editions.. sold way over sticker. Yep supppy / demand .. folks getting caught up with the hype. Well, just had a new knee , and going through rehab.. I am certainly enjoying your videos.

    MK2 are Kabars. The Marines called them all Kabars whether they were made by Camillus, Robinson, PAL or Union Cutlery. The Conneta, MSI and Ontario are also referred to as such. When I show my buddies my MK2 collection, it's always referred to as my Kabar collection.

Have you ever made a video talking about your thoughts on serrated vs straight cut edge? I would be interested to know what your experiences are. Thanks. (PS) I like the serrated edge a lot. It is a Grohmann lockback. small and light.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias День назад

      I don't believe I have done a video specifically on the topic but I'm sure I have discussed it on my videos on bait knives and/or marlin spike knives. I also talked about serrations on my steak knife video. Serrations have their place and in some circumstances they excel. This is especially true when cutting rope also when cutting through hard materials. Also the serrated steak knife or paring protects the blade sharpness by keeping the cutting edge from contacting the hard plate on the opposite side of the item being cut. There are quite a few areas where the serrated blade excels. The negative side if they are hard to sharpen. On the plus side, a dull serrated knife will cut better than a dull fine edge knife.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias 2 дня назад

      Yeah, I'm not sure why they came up with the concept of adding washers to a traditional slip joint. They're fixing a problem that doesn't exist. The liners are the washers.

  • @GlockNinja
    @GlockNinja 2 дня назад

    Rough Ryder knives are very high quality build for the money. I think their quality control is better than Case. Infact, most of Rough Ryder knives are better than the over priced Case knives. And I agree. Why make a tiny knife but make it thick? It would be less pocketable.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias 2 дня назад

      What does this knife have to do with case knives? Are you just on a crusade to spread hate for Case Knives? I don’t get it.

    • @GlockNinja
      @GlockNinja 2 дня назад

      @@KnifeChatswithTobias not at all. Just pointing out Rough Ryder quality and value. My criticism of Case is more of a demand for Case to do better. I haven't owned a Case knife in almost 30 years and I recently got one and it came with a blemish. Also from memory, I have never known Case knives to be very sharp knives from the factory. But then again, almost all mass produced knives are not that sharp. The only mass produced knives I have known to come very sharp are Spyderco

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias 2 дня назад

      @@GlockNinja, so let me get this straight… your criticism of Case is based on a sample pool of one knife that you bought in the last 30 years that had a blemish and wasn’t as sharp as a Spyderco? And for that reason you felt a need to point it out because this video is talking about a Rough Ryder Toothpick? And somehow you think this is going to get Case to do a better job with their QC?

    • @GlockNinja
      @GlockNinja 2 дня назад

      @@KnifeChatswithTobias yes. When you pay $50 to $100 for a pocket knife that shouldn't cost more than $30, the least they can do is have somebody inspect the knife before it leaves the factory.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias 2 дня назад

      @@GlockNinja, I didn’t realize Maury Paup would paid that much attention to my channel. Now I’m sure Case QC will improve thanks to your comment. I’ll have another Rough Ryder Video in a couple days. Looking forward to your next Case/Rough Ryder comparison .

  • @SpyderHeel

    Great Video! I noticed at around the 10:40 mark, it looked like there are brass washers in-between the blade & liners.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias 2 дня назад

      100%. I really needed to point this out. I'm not sure why they decided to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Traditional slip joints do not need a washer as the liners are the washers. If they insisted on using a washer, then they should cut out the liner and make a recess into the handle and seat the washer deeper into the handle. As it is, the knife just has an extra washer. This may lessen the chance of blade rub but it would seem, over time, it would just be one more thing that could lead to blade wobble.

    • @beaurex4756
      @beaurex4756 2 дня назад
